Prof. Shahid Mumtaz is a Full Professor at Nottingham Trent University with over 15 years of experience in wireless industry and academia. He is an IET Fellow, IEEE ComSoc/VTS/IAS Distinguished Speaker, and ACM Distinguished Speaker.
Biography
Prof. Shahid Mumtaz is a Full Professor at Nottingham Trent University (since 2023) and a leading researcher in 5G/6G wireless technologies using AI/ML and Digital Twin (VR/XR) tools. He has served as Senior 5G Consultant for Huawei and InterDigital, and has over 15 years of wireless industry and academic experience.
He has authored 4 technical books, 12 book chapters, and over 300 papers (200+ in journals/transactions and 90+ in conferences), along with 4 patents and 2 standards contributions. His research has garnered over 12,000 citations with an h-index of 60.
Prof. Mumtaz serves as Editor-in-Chief of the IET Journal of Quantum Communication (which he founded) and the Alexandria Engineering Journal (Elsevier), and as Associate Editor of several IEEE journals including IEEE Communications Magazine. He has been Vice-Chair of IEEE ComSoc Green Communications and Computing (Europe/Africa Region) and Vice-Chair of IEEE Standard P1932.1.
He has secured approximately 6 million euros in research funding and has supervised numerous PhD and Master students. He is an IET Fellow, IEEE Senior Member, IEEE ComSoc/VTS/IAS Distinguished Lecturer, ACM Distinguished Speaker, and recipient of the IEEE ComSoc Young Professional Award (2019).
Research Statement
My research focuses on 5G/6G wireless technologies using AI/ML and Digital Twin (VR/XR) tools, with emphasis on innovation bridging industry and academia. Key areas include next-generation wireless communications, Internet of Things, machine learning for communications, and energy-efficient network design.
